'Maya' is a story about a dream that came true. An illogical witch casts a spell that goes awry and a dream is unleashed. It manifests itself to Maya, a ten-year old Indian girl. Maya is a quiet, introvert, solitary child, full of anxieties. She dreams of a horse, which materializes out of the mist, in the shape of 'Flower'. The warmth of her love and her unique relationship with the horse, cracks open the restrictive shell that surrounds Maya, allowing for her growth as a self-possessed little person. Present at the occasion author Dheera Kitchlu said, "This book is an initiative to create awareness among the children to explore their individual strength which is required for growth in life. I tried to incorporate the common problems among the children at the early age in the book which I have observed while teaching kids in schools. I'm grateful to Oxford Bookstore for giving me the opportunity to launch my book among the book lovers of the city." About the book: 10 year old Maya Mehta finds it difficult to read and write; she has no friends, and no interests except drawing. Maya lives with her father, sister, and Ramji in New Delhi. Fa Fa Koten the Indian witch also lives in New Delhi in a jungle not far away from Maya's home. The bungling witch creates the dream through which Maya meets her beloved horse, Flower.
