Five reasons why you should convert to Chrome

Internet Explorer sucks. Slowly but surely, its getting known - it just sucks. There are many reasons for this; a few of these were fixed by Internet Explorer 9 (the most recent upgrade), however they came too late, and by that point i, just like most other Internet users, had long forgotten about Microsofts attempt in taking over the internet. Firefox is better, but even that is a bit slow, and does seem a bit over complicated.

Here is a bit of browser history:

In January 2009, Firefox overtook Internet Explorer in the usage statistics. Then in April 2011, Chrome also took over Internet Explorer. By the end of 2011, Chrome and Firefox are neck and neck (Firefox is 37.7% and Chrome is 34.6%), with Internet Explorer way behind at 20.2%. All i can say to make Internet Explorer feel a bit better, is that i still think more people use Internet Explorer, however these people rarely use the internet, and so aren't 'Tech savvy' enough to go beyond the default program, and also don't account much towards the browsers 'usage'. Also, with the new addition of the ChromeBook to the market, it is my guess that Chrome will be the dominant Internet Browser by the end of February 2012.

So, why use Chrome?

1. Google owns it. This is a massive thing, as Google practically owns the majority of the Internet. They own YouTube, and of course the Google Search engine as two main things, but they also own the Internets biggest advertising company (Adsense), the Internets biggest website traffic tracking system (Analytic), and then they are also slowly pushing forward in their social network 'Google+' (which i highly recommend, as it is much simpler than Facebook), and 'Gmail', which i also think is better than Microsoft's 'Hotmail'. So with all this - Google Chrome is the best for bringing it all together, and I'm sure they will add even more to their browser to link in with this.

2. It is fast. And i mean rapid. Starting up, loading up new pages, and generally browsing - it is brilliant. I have a pretty average internet connection, but i still get through pages about 3 times faster than i do on Internet Explorer.

3. Simplicity. Internet Explorer gives you the option to get rid of excess toolbars, yes, but you have to go through the effort of removing them, and they were probably there for some reason anyway, whereas with Chrome - you don't start with any pointless toolbars. It is optimized for using without extra parts of it that will slow you down, or distract you. Firefox has a major downside here, since it seems to have accumulated several, and they appear to be trying to ask you to add more; slowing down your browsing even more.

4. It all works. Chrome (as well as Safari) uses the 'Webkit' layout engine, which basically determines whether certain code will work on it or not. And these two browsers both never falter for me when I'm testing out websites. On the other hand, it is fairly often practice to type in the code 'If Internet Explorer...' to get a section of code working. This sounds complicated, but take it from a website designer - if everyone used Chrome, it would be much quicker creating a website.

5. More people are using it. So Google will pay more and more attention - so jump onto the bandwagon now, and try it out!

I hope this helped any decision you are thinking of making - and if you don't like Chrome, i suggest looking at Mozilla Firefox, which is my second favorite browser, for similar reasons.

Thanks a lot! And i have to agree, unfortunately, as Google seem to have the idea that when something becomes popular, it should be updated to a new layout every month, such as with Youtube, and the Search engine.

But it could be a good change - we wont know until it happens i guess.
